Arp’s Hardware, Lawn, Garden & Repair Center
This ACE Hardware store was founded by the infamous Hank Arps, and has been a hometown staple for Defiance since 1948. Hank was a war veteran and is still remembered to be upset with a city council decision. In those days counsel met upstairs in the municipal court chambers above the police department. Hank rode one of his lawnmowers downtown, into the police station, onto the elevator and up into council chambers. That determination built a business still loved by Defiance today. Arps is directly across from Riverside Cemetery and carries a good variety of flowers and headstone saddles throughout the year. Arps has a great selection of garden plants in the summer and Christmas trees sales start up around Thanksgiving.

Strait Gate Greenhouse
Strait Gate Greenhouses is a family oriented retail greenhouse operation located in the quiet countryside of northwest Ohio. We offer a premium selection of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, trees, and shrubs as well as a large selection of mums and other fall items. Most of what we sell, we grow ourselves, starting our first seeds early February. If you’re in need of a break from the rat race of society, take an afternoon off and stop out for a visit. We try to keep life in the slow lane!
Kircher’s Greenhouse
A greenhouse has operated at this south Jefferson Street location for over 120 years! Mr. & Mrs. Winfield S. Kircher when they came to Defiance in 1919 and took over the South Jefferson Avenue Greenhouse. They built the present conservatory and retail shop in 1932.
Fast forward nearly 100 years and we find the Belau Family operating Kircher’s since 1968 when they purchased it. Now run by the second generation of Belau’s, Keith and Julie, Kircher’s offers an extensive variety of perennials, annuals, trees, indoor plants as well as a floral service. Don’t miss their specialty, home-grown cantelope each year in August.
Kircher's Flowers grows almost 75% of all the plants and flowers sold in their two locations. There is over 40,000 square feet of greenhouse located in Defiance. Annual production of cut flowers includes 26,000 gerbera daisies, 1,000 asters, 1,500 pompoms, 15,000 snapdragons, 2,000 daffodils, and 3,000 other spring bulbs. Liatris, freesia, anemones, alstoemeria, yarrow, delphinium, and coreopsis are also grown. Annual pot production includes 1,500 cyclamen, 500 calceolaria, 300 cineraria, 40,000 geraniums, 1,000 violets, 3,000 ferns and 9,000 assorted foliage.
Hillside offers fresh farm produce in their season, as well as flowers, hanging baskets, vegetable plants, seeds and onion sets.

Open by appointment. Established in 1987 by Jon DeMuth. DeMuth Nursery is a grower nursery supplying landscape ornamental plants, related materials and landscape design services to wholesale and retail customers in the northwest Ohio area. No appointment needed at Christmas Tree Season!
